The Linotype Devanagari™ typeface extends the original 1977 Matthew Carter designs that were subsequently updated for in 1983 for PostScript® image setters, under the art direction of Fiona Ross and Georgie Surman. The new fonts now contain all the Devanagari glyphs specified in Unicode for OpenType® output.
Inspired by the late 19th and early 20th century Nirnaya Sagar designs, Linotype Devanagari is considered a traditional text face. Now available in five weights and suitable for a wide variety of print and digital uses, the design’s open counters ensure high levels of legibility at small sizes and at modest resolution. A compact design, Linotype Devanagari also provides economy of space where textual real estate is at a premium. In addition, its large character set enables the setting of Hindi, Marathi, Nepali and is suitable for Sanskrit passages.

Centuries later the historical publication comes into the hands of Josep Patau, who uses its printed pages as a reference for a new digital typeface. Previously created for printing, those shapes adapt now to the screen and show the sophistication and authenticity of true Garalde types. Frenchute is a multipurpose typeface with 3 optical sizes. All the shapes were modified to cover different typographic needs. The diagonal axis and the moderate stroke contrast are taken further in the italics letterforms, where the design is far more expressive. The character set includes decorative forms and italic capitals with swashes, so the text looks prettier. Download Frenchute Font Family From Tipo Pèpel Download Now View Gallery
